Alex Dijk Advances Australia Fair

Alex Dijk has a heap of gaming cred.  A heap of it and it is why I love doing this segment.  So many cool game designers!

Tell us who you are and what you have designed?

Designed: Trapped, Planitects: First Contract

Co Designed: NinjitZoo, Lies and Slander, The Boy/Girl who cried Monster

Lots of stuff I need to look at I see…

What is it that makes you want to design games?

I want to create something special/unique that lots of people can enjoy.

There are so many great games out there to play and there is a lot that just steals from others and hopes to win off the popularity of the other system.  I love the fact that you try to design something unique and special in each game.

What are the games that inspire you most?

I like games with lots of mechanics, a perfect example of this would be Istanbul, or lots of scoring mechanics like carcasonne.

Crunchy games are very cool.  Plus I like the scoring mechanic of Carcassone a lot, it generally means you are wondering who won right until the very end.

What makes Australian games different from others?

I think a lot of Australian game designers really take the time to care about what they are making, to try and be different, to make something original.

Where can we get your games from?

Download print and plays at 93 Made Games

And he said he is interested at selling on the store too so after a bit of negotiation you may be able to get them at Games On Board too 🙂

Are you working on anything at the moment?

  1. Un-named drafting game
  2. Un-named Modular Wargaming Rule set
  3. Un-named Sword Building game.

Maybe we should have a competition for naming them?

It is great to see some tabletop board games hit the list finally.  I know that there are a lot of game designers in that field here in Australia and had hoped to capture a lot of them.  We still have a few to go though!
